Mahershala Ali recently spoke about the uncertain future of his role in the Marvel franchise, particularly regarding the film Blade, admitting that he is “just taking it one day at a time.”
While attending the premiere of his new blockbuster, Jurassic World: Rebirth, Ali addressed the situation surrounding Blade, which was reportedly canceled in March after encountering numerous script problems over the past six years.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ali expressed, “I’m doing the best work I can. I would love for Blade to happen; we’ll see. I’m not sure where Marvel stands at the moment. Right now, I’m just looking for the next great role.”
As for his current project, Jurassic World: Rebirth, where he stars alongside Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, Ali discussed the challenges and rewards of filming such large productions. He explained, “These types of films are very complex to shoot; sometimes, a single scene can be filmed across three countries over four months. It requires a lot of trust that everything will come together in the end.”
Despite the challenges, Ali noted the satisfaction of completing the film and praised director Gareth Edwards for his impressive editing work.
Scarlett Johansson, who plays a lead role in the film, has also expressed her enthusiasm for being part of the Jurassic franchise, citing it as a significant influence during her childhood. “It was such a formative moviegoing experience for me. Nothing like that had been seen before, and the effects were remarkable,” she shared.
Jurassic World: Rebirth is set to hit cinemas on July 2, 2025.
