Zara Larsson Questions Katy Perry’s Collaboration with Dr. Luke: “I Can’t Understand Why”

June 16, 20253 min read

Zara Larsson appears to have called out Katy Perry over her decision to collaborate with Dr. Luke. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the Swedish pop star shared her thoughts on the producer’s re-emergence in the music scene following a protracted legal battle with Kesha.

Kesha first accused Dr. Luke of emotional abuse and sexual assault in 2014. Although he denied the allegations and countersued Kesha for breaching their contract, they reached a settlement in 2023, with Dr. Luke stating, “I am absolutely certain that nothing happened.”

Larsson, who was once signed to Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, voiced her concerns regarding his return to pop music. “I’m like, why?” she said. “There are countless other people. Is it really that necessary for him to make a comeback? I don’t think so.”

While Dr. Luke has been producing music since the initial lawsuit, Larsson’s comments seem to reference his recent work on Katy Perry’s album 143. She expressed that she “personally wouldn’t work with him” and questioned what he could contribute to her or anyone else.

“I believe the most powerful action you can take is to support women in the industry,” Larsson concluded. “That’s far more impactful than creating a feminist anthem with someone who doesn’t truly embody those values.”

Larsson recently released her bold single “Pretty Ugly” in April and will be dropping her new album Midnight Sun on September 26, through Sommer House and Epic Records. She is set to join Tate McRae on her upcoming North American tour in August and September. Tickets are available now; check them out here.
