World Premiere of Jamie Armitage’s A Ghost In Your Ear at Hampstead Theatre

June 2, 20254 min read

Neighbor, would you like me to read the news to you?

Jamie Armitage is set to return to Hampstead Theatre as director of his latest play, A Ghost In Your Ear. This captivating and immersive production utilizes binaural sound technology, created in collaboration with sound designers Ben and Max Ringham. The play will open at Hampstead Theatre Downstairs on January 8, 2026, with previews starting from December 6, 2025, and performances running until January 24, 2026.

This new work follows the successful run of Armitage’s previous production, An Interrogation, which he directed earlier this year and received rave reviews.

In his own words, Armitage expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Hampstead Theatre was the perfect London venue for my debut play, An Interrogation, and I couldn’t be happier to bring my new piece to the Downstairs stage. The intimate setting is ideal for this horror play, which uses binaural audio technology to draw the audience into the world of A Ghost In Your Ear. I feel privileged to collaborate with the renowned sound designers Ben & Max Ringham, whose innovative work I have long admired. My fascination with horror theatre began at age 12 when I first saw The Woman in Black, and I can’t wait to share this new ghost story with audiences. I hope it sends chills down their spines!”

The complete cast and creative team will be announced soon.

Tickets for Hampstead Theatre patrons go on sale today, May 30, with Friends accessing bookings on June 3. Public ticket sales will begin on June 6.

“The ghost is not real; it’s just in your ear…”

As you settle in, you’ll witness an actor stepping into a sound-recording studio. Donning headphones, you’ll listen closely as he records an audiobook of a ghostly tale. Yet, unexpected sounds may blur the line between the story and reality, leading you to fear that horror is edging ever closer.

A Ghost In Your Ear, from the writer/director of the hit An Interrogation, employs binaural sound technology to fully immerse the audience in its chilling experience.

Health Warning: This play is designed to scare its audience—viewer discretion is advised for those of a nervous disposition.

Jamie Armitage’s first play, An Interrogation, debuted at Summerhall, Edinburgh in August 2023, winning the Lustrum Award before transferring to Hampstead Theatre, where it also enjoyed a sold-out run. As a director, Armitage co-directed SIX: The Musical, currently playing in the West End and on Broadway, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Direction. His directing credits include The Red & The Black (Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre), Straight Line Crazy, and more.

Ben and Max Ringham are award-winning composers and sound designers known for their extensive work across more than 200 productions in the UK and Broadway. Their notable projects include The Tempest/Much Ado About Nothing in the West End, Prima Facie, and A Doll’s House. The Ringhams have received multiple accolades, including five Olivier Award nominations.
