SAVVY Contemporary invites us to such a journey with Po-Nien Wang’s movement workshop, In the Shape of My Ghost. This workshop is not merely a dance class; it’s a philosophical experience exploring gender fluidity and queerness through the lens of contemporary dance and ancient Chinese poetry.
This two-hour special session, guided by Po-Nien Wang, opens its doors to all bodies and levels, from those new to movement to experienced dancers. Participants are invited to dance with respect and intimacy, as Wang leads them on an inner journey from stillness to dynamic interaction. Blending contemporary dance with Chinese martial arts, the workshop transforms curiosity, sensitivity, and playfulness into a harmonious physical state. Based in Berlin, freelance artist Po-Nien Wang is a former dancer with Taiwan’s renowned Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and has performed on international stages, including the Venice Biennale and Julidans. Drawing from personal journeys and themes of belonging and identity, Wang creates their own projects. The In the Shape of My Ghost workshop emerges as part of this profound personal exploration.
