The power of art sometimes lies not in grand gestures but in the quietest moments. The group exhibition This is the place you told me about at AXEL OBIGER gallery invites us to listen to that silence. Curated by Cassandra Mehlhorn, the exhibition features eight artists exploring fragility as both a material and spiritual phenomenon. Through a minimalist and quiet language, they capture the delicate moment where the inner and outer worlds meet.
The works of Dana Engfer, Christoph Kilian, Lucy König, Gabriele Künne, Taiyoh Mori, Enrico Niemann, Miriam Salamander, and Fiene Scharp speak of sheltered spaces, thresholds, and liminal states. Blending the abstract with the concrete, hiding with seeking, they unveil a world of imagined encounters. Spanning sculpture, drawing, and installation, the artworks interact with their surroundings—both physically and conceptually—infusing the space with new meaning.
This exhibition is not just a static display but a living experience. The opening night featured a live performance by Gökçen Dilek Acay and Eunji Lee, elevating the dialogue to new heights. Recently, on September 27, a special guided tour with the curator and artists took place. The exhibition will close with a finissage on October 9, featuring a sound and spoken word performance by Andreas Reihse and Seda Mimaroğlu.
The exhibition proves the power of handcrafted works that speak in their own simple yet profound language. While each piece is unique, together they reveal a kinship that underscores how closely human experience is tied to fragility.
