The legendary director Quentin Tarantino has taken a break from feature filmmaking since his 2019 Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but he’s been keeping busy with other projects. One of the most surprising is his recent collaboration with Epic Games to bring Kill Bill characters into Fortnite. This partnership finally gave Tarantino the chance to realize a scene that had been sitting on the shelf for over 20 years.
The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge
To celebrate the upcoming theatrical release of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (a single-film version combining Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 with additional footage), Tarantino created a brand-new animated short titled The Lost Chapter: Yuki’s Revenge. The short is currently available to watch inside Fortnite.
It focuses on Yuki, the twin sister of Gogo Yubari from Kill Bill: Volume 1. Yuki sets out to avenge her sister’s death by hunting down The Bride (once again played by Uma Thurman).
Tarantino explained why the scene was originally cut from the script:
“We couldn’t do it back then—it was too insane, there was just too much action.”
Thanks to Fortnite, that gap has finally been filled after all these years (even if the director admits he never originally envisioned it featuring a giant talking banana!).
Comments from Tarantino and Thurman
Tarantino initially thought Epic Games only wanted to license the characters, but the team actually asked him to direct an 8- to 12-minute piece featuring the iconic Kill Bill cast. He immediately said yes.
Uma Thurman, thrilled to slip back into the yellow jumpsuit, said:
“I thought it was super cool. I mean, it’s a whole new audience for this movie. This man and I have had an incredible life in films together—some of the best experiences imaginable. I dare anyone to say they’ve had more extraordinary experiences with this guy than I have.”
Key Date
