Sydney Minsky Sargeant of Working Men’s Club is set to release his debut solo album, ‘Lunga’, and has given fans a taste with the lead single, ‘I Don’t Wanna’.
The album drops on September 12 via Domino and is available for pre-order here.
According to the press release, ‘Lunga’ marks a significant shift from the music Sargeant has created with Working Men’s Club over the past seven years. The tracks were composed over several years, many originating from Sargeant’s teenage years in Todmorden.
“I want to be more open with my emotions; these songs stem from my quest for meaning and understanding,” Sargeant shared. “I’m constantly trying to explore myself and the people I care about. These songs gave me a way to express and make sense of my thoughts and feelings.”
The album’s title, ‘Lunga’, suggests a sense of unity, as Sargeant explained: “It’s a reminder that deep down, we’re all the same. In today’s frightening and divided world, I hope this album resonates with people.”
The lead single, ‘I Don’t Wanna’, features a gentle, minimalist vibe that revolves around an acoustic guitar, with synths joining later on. “Confide in me / I’ll put down everyone / I’ll put down everything / If loving this is wrong then I don’t wanna be right,” he sings.
