The beloved musical The Last Five Years is set for a revival with a multi-venue tour featuring Martha Kirby and Guy Woolf in leading roles. This production is a collaborative effort between the Barn Theatre, Reading Rep Theatre, and Theatre Royal Bath, with Hal Chambers at the helm as director.
The tour kicks off at Reading Rep Theatre from September 19 to October 12, before continuing to the Barn Theatre in Cirencester from October 17 to November 15. It will wrap up at the Ustinov Studio at Theatre Royal Bath from November 25 to January 3.
Martha Kirby, playing the role of Cathy, recently starred as Wendy in the world premiere of the immersive musical Club NVRLND at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Her notable performances also include leading parts in Evita and the UK tour of Bat Out of Hell. Guy Woolf, who will portray Jamie, has made his mark in roles such as Reyzl the Dame in Yankl and the Beanstalk and as the alternate Sonny in the UK tour of The Cher Show.
Director Hal Chambers shared his enthusiasm for the project, describing The Last Five Years as “the one musical I’ve always dreamed of bringing to life.” He praised Tony Award-winning writer Jason Robert Brown for creating a show with an innovative narrative framework—one character’s story unfolds forward in time, while the other moves backward, presenting it as “a compelling theatrical puzzle reminiscent of a Christopher Nolan film.”
This revival is expected to be a deeply personal and emotionally charged production, embracing a “dreamlike, poetic” style that will delve into the profound experiences of love and heartbreak.
