Neighbor, would you like me to read the news to you?

In a recent interview with the New York Times, former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr expressed his reservations about the script for the upcoming Beatles biopic that centers around his life. As part of a unique project, each member of the legendary band will have their own individual movie released simultaneously in April 2028.

Starr traveled to London in April to collaborate with filmmaker Sam Mendes on the project. Over the course of two days, they meticulously analyzed the script, where Starr provided extensive feedback to ensure that his story was portrayed accurately, especially concerning his family and first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett. “The writer was fantastic and had a great reputation,” Starr noted. “But some of the scenes just didn’t align with our reality. I had to correct a few things, saying, ‘We would never do that.’”

Now that he has contributed significantly to the script, Starr is more satisfied with its direction. However, he still has logistical concerns, as he expressed uncertainty about how Mendes plans to shoot four films at once. Regardless, he remains optimistic, stating, “He’ll find a way, and I’ll send him peace and love.”

Barry Keoghan, known for his role in Saltburn, will portray Starr in the biopic—a detail Starr accidentally revealed during their first meeting. Keoghan has since conveyed the immense pressure he feels to accurately depict Starr, whom he describes as an “icon.”

The ensemble cast for the Beatles biopics includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. All four films are set to premiere together in April 2028.

In addition to discussing the biopic, Starr reflected on approaching his 85th birthday on July 7. “It blows my mind,” he remarked. “When I look in the mirror, I still feel 24. I don’t think I’ve aged past that.”
