Queens Of The Stone Age Unveils Vinyl and Audio Release for ‘Alive In The Catacombs’

June 10, 20253 min read

Queens Of The Stone Age are set to release the audio from their concert documentary, Alive in The Catacombs, which features their captivating performance in the Paris Catacombs from last year.

The audio will be available for streaming this Friday (June 13) through Matador Records, alongside a limited vinyl edition, with only 5,000 copies being produced.

This exclusive vinyl comes with a 24-page booklet filled with behind-the-scenes photographs by long-time collaborator Andreas Neumann. Each gatefold jacket is beautifully designed with foil printing, and every copy will be individually stamped and numbered. Pre-orders for the vinyl can be placed here ahead of its release on August 22.

The unique concert was held without an audience and featured the band augmented by a three-piece string section, using chains and chopsticks as unconventional percussion. All songs were performed live in full takes with no overdubs or edits.

Tracklist:

  • ‘Running Joke/Paper Machete’
  • ‘Calopsia’
  • ‘Villains of Circumstance’
  • ‘Suture Up Your Future’
  • ‘I Never Came’

The film Alive in The Catacombs premiered last week, showcasing the band’s extraordinary July 2024 performance in the historic site, which houses the remains of over six million individuals and has been open to the public since the 19th century. Queens Of The Stone Age made history as the first band to play there.

In a four-star review by NME, it’s noted, “The California rockers’ starkly beautiful, Thomas Rames-directed live film Alive In The Catacombs immerses viewers, much like navigating the labyrinth of tunnels beneath Paris. This isn’t your typical stripped-back live show; the band performs with deep respect for the countless souls whose remains surround them.”

Guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen commented in the accompanying documentary, Alive In Paris And Before, “For once, we’re not the main focus. We’re here to honor those buried 20 meters underground since 1786.”

Looking ahead, Queens Of The Stone Age will perform two major outdoor headline shows at Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus this summer, following their appearance at Portsmouth’s Victorious Festival. They are also gearing up for a European tour later this year, participating in numerous festivals including Öya, Electric Castle, Lowlands, and Pukkelpop.

After a challenging period where some European dates were canceled due to emergency surgery required by frontman Josh Homme, the band is set to return to the stage on June 10 in Boston, Massachusetts, with appearances at Bonnaroo 2025 in Manchester, Tennessee scheduled for the same month.
