In an exciting announcement, Nicola Roberts, the renowned singer from Girls Aloud, is set to take the stage in the acclaimed West End musical Hadestown. Starting September 16, 2025, and running through January 18, 2026, Roberts will portray the character of Persephone.
This role marks a significant return for Roberts to the London theatre scene, having made her West End debut in 2020 with the Olivier Award-winning revival of City of Angels. Her latest casting follows a successful reunion tour with Girls Aloud, which included 30 sold-out shows across the UK and Ireland, celebrating the band’s legacy and honoring their late member, Sarah Harding.
Sharing her enthusiasm for the new role, Roberts said, “I am beyond thrilled to be joining the cast of Hadestown in London. This show is a true masterpiece. The character of Persephone is deeply layered, embodying light and sorrow, joy and darkness. Her songs are rich in emotion and such a joy to perform.”
Roberts will be joining a talented ensemble, including Desmonda Cathabel as Eurydice, Chris Jarman as Hades, Cedric Neal as Hermes, and Dylan Wood as Orpheus.
Hadestown, with music, lyrics, and a book by the acclaimed Anaïs Mitchell, intertwines two legendary love stories: that of the young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the eternal bond between King Hades and his wife, Persephone. The musical has enchanted audiences with its unique blend of American musical styles, from indie folk to jazz.
Both fans of Hadestown and Nicola Roberts can look forward to a captivating and deeply emotional theatre experience when she steps into the role of Persephone.
