Netflix has officially renewed One Piece for a third season and has given fans a sneak peek at what to expect in the upcoming second season.
The first season of this beloved adaptation, which debuted in 2023, received rave reviews from both viewers and critics, breaking Netflix viewing records previously held by Wednesday and Stranger Things.
Based on Eiichiro Oda’s globally popular manga, which later became an anime sensation, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew as they traverse a vibrant world filled with vast oceans and unique islands, all in pursuit of the greatest treasure to become the next Pirate King.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the renewal announcement was made during Oda’s annual celebration in Tokyo. Along with this exciting news, Netflix released a teaser trailer for Season Two, showcasing Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and the Straw Hat Pirates embarking on new thrilling adventures alongside several new characters.
For fans eager for more, season two introduces David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in Oppenheimer, Dune, and The Suicide Squad, who will portray ‘Loan Shark’ Galdino, also known as Mr. 3, affiliated with the criminal group Baroque Works. Additionally, Daniel Lasker will take on the role of Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson will play Mr. 5, and Jazza will portray Miss Valentine.
Production for the third season is set to commence later this year in Cape Town, South Africa, according to Deadline.
One Piece co-executive producer Ian Stokes will step in as co-showrunner alongside Joe Tracz, taking over for Matt Owens, who left after the first two seasons.
In a four-star review for NME, Mark Beaumont praised One Piece, stating it “moves along at a brisk pace, stacking drama like a perfectly balanced tower. If you’re looking for engaging, teen-friendly adventures that are hard to resist, get ready to embark on this journey!”
