Jon Bernthal’s Return as Punisher Confirmed for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

June 23, 20251 min read

Jon Bernthal has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The star of The Accountant 2 will reprise his role as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, alongside Tom Holland, as reported by Deadline.

In addition to Holland, Bernthal will be sharing the screen with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Sadie Sink from Stranger Things. The film is set to be released on July 31, 2026, and will take place after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Bernthal first portrayed Castle in Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix and went on to lead his own series, which ran for two seasons. He recently made a return in a few episodes of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+.

Interestingly, Bernthal initially declined to return as Punisher for the reboot but changed his mind following major creative changes during production.

He is also set to star in a standalone Punisher TV special, akin to previous Marvel one-offs like Werewolf By Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Meanwhile, the release date for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was recently confirmed by Disney, coinciding with the news of delays for the next two Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, has now been pushed from May 1, 2026, to December 18 of that year, while Avengers: Secret Wars has been moved from May 7 to December 17, 2027.
