Irvine Welsh, the author of the novel Trainspotting, which inspired the cult classic film, has shared the first single, “A Man In Love With Love,” from an album tied to the book’s sequel. The album, Men In Love, set for release on July 24 alongside the Trainspotting sequel film, features music written by Welsh and produced with the Sci-Fi Soul orchestra. The music is described as blending “classic Motown and disco influences with contemporary electronic dance production.”
Speaking about the album, Welsh said: “In uncertain times dominated by the rise of soulless oligarchs, their corrosive technologies, and predatory economies, the greatest enduring positive force for humanity is our infinite capacity for love.” Having announced the Trainspotting sequel novel last December, Welsh, who has previously explored other directions in the Trainspotting universe with novels like Porno and Skagboys, noted that the upcoming novel will pick up immediately after the events of the original Trainspotting. The story will follow the characters Renton, Spud, Sick Boy, and Begbie as they move away from heroin and pursue love. In an interview with The Guardian, Welsh expressed his excitement about bringing these characters back for the new novel.
