Get ready, Wildcats! Hope Mill Theatre has teamed up with The Lowry to launch the first non-replica UK production of Disney’s beloved classic, High School Musical. This exciting new adaptation will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic film, opening at The Lowry in Salford on August 21, 2026, and running until September 13, 2026. Tickets will be available for purchase starting July 18, 2025.
The show, inspired by David Simpatico’s script and featuring music adapted, arranged, and produced by Bryan Louiselle, will be co-directed by Hope Mill founders Joseph Houston and William Whelton. More details about the creative team and casting will be announced soon.
The Lyric Theatre at The Lowry will undergo a complete transformation into an immersive basketball court, complete with on-stage seating and an extended stage, allowing audiences to dive right into the vibrant world of East High. Fans can look forward to singing along to all the classic hits, including “Breaking Free,” “We’re All In This Together,” “Get’cha Head in the Game,” and “Stick to the Status Quo.”
“High School Musical is a beloved production that resonates with audiences of all ages,” said co-directors Joseph Houston and William Whelton. “We aim to create a brand-new stage experience that feels fresh and unique.” Matthew Eames, Co-Head of Theatres at The Lowry, echoed their sentiment, stating, “This is a truly iconic show that has helped launch many careers. We can’t wait for the East High Wildcats to hit Salford!”
Since its stage debut in 2006, High School Musical has enjoyed incredible success worldwide, including its London premiere in 2008.
