Don’t miss your opportunity to attend the concluding group exhibition by the Cornell University MFA class of 2025, featuring the creative works of Adrian Aguilera, Elina Ansary, Andy Nicholas Li, Hyunjin Park, and Sopheak Sam. Curated collaboratively, Even the Phrase Each Other will be on display until May 31 at ORTEGA Y GASSET PROJECTS in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
The exhibition’s title draws inspiration from a poetic line by Jalal al-Din Rumi, as interpreted by Coleman Barks, suggesting themes of unity through the unpredictability and interconnectedness of life. This diverse collection includes paintings, prints, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, and videos, each engaging viewers through cultural narratives shaped by the artists’ backgrounds in Mexico, Afghanistan, Finland, China, South Korea, and Cambodia. The artworks explore the interplay between belonging and alienation, unfolding as fragmented memories of a war-ravaged “past,” scrutinizing notions of masculinity, offering elegies for both human and non-human existence, and deconstructing language and digital imagery. Collectively, these artists aim to capture how death, distance, and desire leave marks on our identities and perceptions, reflecting the complexity and awe of our shared experience.
Additionally, attendees will receive a complimentary risograph print created by MFA artist Adrian Aguilera.
The two-year Master of Fine Arts in Creative Visual Arts program at Cornell fosters an intensive, intimate, and inclusive community that promotes both interdisciplinary and medium-specific practices, enhanced by access to a wide range of academic fields.
