Neighbor, would you like me to read the news to you?

Alien: Romulus is set to get a sequel, with director Fede Alvarez hinting it could hit screens earlier than expected.

The original film debuted in August 2024, placed between the classic Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986). It featured talents like Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla) and David Jonsson (Industry, Rye Lane), centering on a group of young space colonists encountering a mysterious extraterrestrial menace while exploring an abandoned space station.

In a recent interview on The Great Nocturnal podcast, Alvarez shared that filming for the follow-up is on the horizon. Pre-production is already underway, and the first scenes are scheduled to begin shooting in October.

While no official release date has been confirmed yet, Alvarez’s comments suggest a potential summer 2026 launch.

Romulus received praise for both its box office performance and critical acclaim. In a five-star review, NME noted its exceptional production design and captivating score by Benjamin Wallfisch, calling it a remarkable addition to the Alien franchise. The film even earned a spot on NME‘s list of the Top 20 Films of 2024.

Additionally, the Alien franchise is expanding with a new television series titled Alien: Earth, premiering on FX on August 12. This series will take place two years before the iconic 1979 original and will star Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, and Alex Lawther.
