Disney+ Unveils ‘Death Stranding’ Anime Series

November 16, 20252 min read

Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed video game franchise, Death Stranding, is officially making its way to Disney+ in the form of an animated series. The announcement has fans buzzing with excitement.

Kojima created the original Death Stranding in 2019 after departing Konami due to creative differences. The game, set in a post-apocalyptic world, follows Sam Porter Bridges (voiced by Norman Reedus) as he delivers vital supplies and links human settlements amidst horrific creatures that emerged following a cataclysmic event. Its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, debuted in June to critical acclaim, earning its place as one of the top-reviewed games of the year.

Since the success of the franchise, several adaptations have been in the works, including an upcoming A24-produced feature film. In May, Kojima hinted at his plans for an anime adaptation but was unable to disclose details at the time. Now, he has confirmed his collaboration with Disney+ for the project, which is currently titled Death Stranding Isolations.

Kojima revealed the news during an unexpected appearance at Disney’s Asia Pacific originals content showcase in Hong Kong, where he also shared artwork for the series. Directed by Takayuki Sano and with Kojima serving as executive producer, the anime is slated to premiere in 2027 and will introduce new characters to the Death Stranding universe.

According to a brief synopsis from Disney+, Death Stranding Isolations will present a fresh narrative separate from the video games, centered around a young man and woman on an adventure in the Death Stranding world.

As for the A24 live-action film, Kojima confirmed that while he won’t be directing, he will still be involved as a producer. “I made Death Stranding as a game, and adapting it into a movie will be a different endeavor. It’s my creation, so I want to ensure it aligns with my vision while allowing others, like A24 and director Michael Sarnoski, to bring their own creativity to the project.”
