Is dance merely an art form seen with the eyes? What if it’s also felt through the ears and experienced with the body?
DANCÆ, in collaboration with MONOM, answers this question with the performance Bodies in Sound in Berlin. This unique event redefines dance and music within the historic walls of Dannerhalle, a factory from 1927. Once a site for producing light bulbs, this space now illuminates the future of art.
Sound Holograms and the Rhythm of Movement
At the heart of the event lies a system developed by 4DSOUND, considered the world’s most advanced spatial sound instrument. This technology transforms sound from mere vibrations through speakers into a living, tangible presence that breathes within the space. Sounds become “sound holograms,” dancing around the audience. There’s no longer a “sweet spot” for hearing the music best—every point in the room is the music itself.
Another thrilling aspect is the magical connection between movement and sound. International techno star Chlär has composed a bespoke piece for the evening. But the dancers don’t merely move to his music. Equipped with motion-capture sensors, their every movement directly influences Chlär’s composition in real time. Dance shapes the music, and music shapes the dance. This is a moment where technology, dance, and music intertwine, giving birth to an entirely new language.
Bodies in Sound breaks down dance’s fourth wall. The audience ceases to be passive spectators, becoming part of the artistic flow through both sight and sound. In Dannerhalle’s historic atmosphere, sound and body merge, reminding us of something we’ve forgotten: art isn’t just watched—it’s felt and lived.
What do you think—doesn’t this performance feel like an exciting glimpse into the future of art? Let’s meet in the comments.
