London’s Barbican Centre Reveals Exciting Summer 2025 Lineup Focused on Sound and Theatre

May 21, 20252 min read

London’s Barbican Centre has officially announced its dynamic Summer 2025 lineup, showcasing an impressive range of events throughout its venues, public spaces, and even the car park. Set to begin in May, the season features “Frequencies,” a cross-disciplinary initiative that explores the immense impact of sound and auditory experiences.

“Frequencies” will present an engaging schedule, highlighted by the groundbreaking multi-sensory exhibition “Feel the Sound,” running from May 22 to August 31. Additionally, the world premiere of “In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats” (May 22 – August 3) invites audiences to immerse themselves in a virtual reality experience, revisiting an Acid House rave from 1989. The program also celebrates London’s community and pirate radio history with “Rebel Radio” (June 1 – 30), featuring live broadcasts from Reprezent Radio, community listening events, and a club night organized by Rinse FM.

Theatre lovers will be treated to two significant productions. The acclaimed Olivier Award-winning revival of “Fiddler on the Roof” (May 24 – July 19), which received rave reviews during its sold-out run at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, will be moving to the Barbican. Following it is the London premiere of “Good Night, Oscar” (July 31 – September 21), a darkly comedic drama featuring Tony Award-winner Sean Hayes in his celebrated Broadway role, alongside Rosalie Craig.

The musical highlights are just as impressive, including a “Summer Jazz Series” with performances by Tigran Hamasyan, the Brad Mehldau Trio, and a special three-night birthday residency for Herbie Hancock, who turns 85. Other notable events include “Actress x Suzanne Ciani present Concrète Waves,” “Jeff Mills + London Symphony Orchestra: Blue Potential,” and “Rampage: Carnival Classics 2” with the Nu Civilisation Orchestra.

Additionally, the Barbican will showcase “Encounters: Giacometti x Huma Bhabha” (May 8 – August 10), a major exhibition examining the relationship between these two renowned figurative sculptors. The beloved “Outdoor Cinema” returns from August 20 to 31, featuring films accompanied by innovative soundscapes in the Barbican Sculpture Court.

“This summer, we invite you to pause and tune into your body, memory, and senses,” said Devyani Saltzman, Director of Arts & Participation. “I hope our Summer 2025 season and the ‘Frequencies’ program inspire new ways of experiencing, feeling, and thinking across different disciplines.”
