Ramses & The Pharaohs’ Gold: The Splendor of Ancient Egypt Gains a New Dimension in Battersea

London’s appetite for large-scale “immersive history” projects continues. To the narrative line extending from Pompeii to the Titanic, one of the most recognizable figures of Ancient Egypt is now being added: Ramses II.

Ramses & The Pharaohs’ Gold is one of the first major exhibition-experience events of 2026, opening at the NEON venue in Battersea Power Station. The project promises to transport visitors into the world of this iconic pharaoh who ruled for 67 years, going beyond the classic museum narrative.

Over 180 Artifacts in London for the First Time

A significant portion of the pieces in the exhibition have never previously come to the United Kingdom.

Highlights include:

  • The original wooden sarcophagus that once housed Ramses II’s mummy,
  • animal mummies,
  • royal masks and amulets,
  • relief-decorated sarcophagi and jewelry,

visual and spatial arrangements referencing Queen Nefertari’s tomb chamber.

This large-scale collection aims to reinterpret the visual codes of Ancient Egypt not only through historical display but through a sense of “visual intensity” and “close contact.”

Immersive Experience: From Abu Simbel to Nefertari’s Tomb

Details of the exhibition’s VR and spatial arrangements are still limited, but considering NEON’s next-generation production infrastructure, an arrangement is expected that invites visitors to experience the scale and craftsmanship of Ancient Egyptian architecture.

Key focuses:

VR experience at Ramses,

Ramses II’s political-cultural legacy,

the light/scale language of the Abu Simbel temples,

the iconographic richness in Nefertari’s tomb chamber,

the re-reading of everyday mystical objects from the pharaonic period using modern staging techniques.

VR experience at Rameses

What Does It Mean for London? — Note 26

Almost every year, a major historical figure is restaged in London with an “immersive” project, but Ramses II’s boundless visual material, high-collection-value original objects, and VR-supported spatial arrangements distinguish this exhibition from the others.

Additionally, the fact that Egyptian artifacts we are accustomed to viewing “from afar” hundreds of times amid the crowds of the British Museum will here be truly viewable with controlled visitor numbers makes an important difference.
