Last night (October 13), Grizzly Bear celebrated their reunion with their first live performance in six years—check out the highlights from the concert below.
The Brooklyn indie band went on hiatus in 2019, following the release of their latest album, Painted Ruins, two years prior. In November 2023, co-lead vocalist Ed Droste hinted at the possibility of the band returning from their break, especially after he announced the opening of his own therapy practice. By May this year, Grizzly Bear confirmed their comeback, unveiling a US tour set for the fall.
The tour kicked off at Brooklyn Steel with their first of five homecoming shows, featuring a setlist that spanned their entire career. Fans were treated to the live debut of their 2013 single “Will Calls,” while the classic track “Alligator” from their 2004 debut, Horn of Plenty, was performed for the first time since 2008.
Other rarities included “Little Brother,” which hadn’t been played since 2014, and “Deep Sea Diver,” marking its first appearance since 2005. The band also delivered many of their fan-favorites, such as “Two Weeks,” “Yet Again,” and “Mourning Sound.”

In a recent interview with Pitchfork, they mentioned plans to keep their setlists fresh for each show. Co-lead vocalist Daniel Rossen stated, “We’re trying to balance the songs that we assume are fan favorites with some more obscure tracks that we might not have played in the past.”
Tonight (October 14), Grizzly Bear will return to Brooklyn Steel, followed by three more shows there on October 16, 17, and 18. After that, they’ll perform in Chicago before heading to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland. You can find remaining tickets here.
From October 16 onward, Victoria Legrand of Beach House will join them for select performances each night. The band expressed their excitement, saying, “We’re truly honored to have such a queen with us.”
During their hiatus, Droste confirmed in 2020 that he was studying to become a therapist, while Rossen and drummer Chris Bear continued collaborating, including on the soundtrack for the 2023 movie Past Lives. Rossen also released his debut solo album, You Belong There, in 2022, supporting it with a series of shows across North America and Europe.
