Italian contemporary artist Andrea Francolino returns to the art world with his first solo exhibition in London in nearly a decade, titled Contemplatio, running until September 12, 2025. The exhibition offers a space for reflection, inviting visitors to contemplate the beauty found in the imperfections of humanity and the earth.
The Poetic Power of Rupture and Infinite Possibilities
At the core of Francolino’s artistic practice lies the concept of “rupture.” He views it as a marker of space and time, a symbol of natural evolution, and a representation of environmental and societal balance. For him, rupture is a realm of infinite possibilities.
The exhibition encourages engagement with art through two elusive concepts in today’s fast-paced world: “contemplation” and “inspiration.” Francolino defines Contemplatio, a term rooted in ancient Rome, as the highest intellectual pursuit of knowledge. Today, he reinterprets it as a prolonged state of absolute attention and curiosity, likening the act of gazing at a crack to beholding the universe.
The exhibition features works from his 2024 M² series, created with materials such as concrete, wood, earth dust, 24-karat gold leaf, and lapis lazuli.
