Following a successful, sold-out season at the Chichester Festival Theatre, the acclaimed musical The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry is set to move to the West End. Performances will commence at the renowned Theatre Royal Haymarket on January 29, 2026, with an official press night on February 10. The show is scheduled to run until April 18, 2026.
Adapted from Rachel Joyce’s best-selling novel, the musical has been hailed as “pitch-perfect” and “deeply moving.” It features a stunning score by indie artist Passenger, famous for his hit song “Let Her Go,” with direction by the talented Katy Rudd, who co-created the adaptation.
Mark Addy (known for The Full Monty and Game of Thrones) reprises his role as Harold, alongside Olivier Award-winning Jenna Russell (Sunday in the Park with George) as his wife, Maureen. Additional casting details for the London production will be revealed soon.
Rachel Joyce shared her enthusiasm about the show’s transfer, saying, “I never imagined that my book would become a musical, let alone find a home in one of my favorite theatres—the Theatre Royal Haymarket.”
The story follows an everyday man, Harold Fry, who sets out to mail a letter but finds himself undertaking a trek across England. His unexpected journey from Devon to Berwick-upon-Tweed evolves into a significant pilgrimage of love, redemption, and second chances. Meanwhile, his wife Maureen embarks on her own journey, which may lead them back to one another. This production promises to be a “joyous new musical,” serving as a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to start anew.
Priority tickets will be available starting September 9, 2025, with general sales beginning the following day. For priority access, visit HaroldFryMusical.com.
