Additional Casting Announced for The Lady from the Sea Starring Alicia Vikander & Andrew Lincoln

July 9, 20252 min read

The London Theatre Company has revealed further casting details for Simon Stone’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea, which is set to debut at The Bridge Theatre this September. Joining the previously announced leads, Alicia Vikander will portray Ellida and Andrew Lincoln will take on the role of Edward.

The new cast members include Isobel Akuwudike (The Road Trip) as Hilda, Joe Alwyn (The Brutalist, Conversations with Friends) as Heath, Brendan Cowell (Yerma, The Life of Galileo) as Finn Marcet, John Macmillan (House of the Dragon, Phaedra) as Lyle, and Gracie Oddie-James (Grantchester) as Asa.

The Lady from the Sea will begin previews on September 10, with its official opening night scheduled for September 18. This limited engagement will run for nine weeks, concluding on November 8, 2025. This marks Simon Stone’s debut collaboration with The Bridge Theatre, alongside Wouter van Ransbeek.

Stone’s innovative reinterpretation of Ibsen’s classic delves into a woman’s search for independence. The story follows Ellida, who, after settling into a comfortable life, is faced with a life-altering decision when a former lover resurfaces, challenging her predictable routine.

Expressing his excitement for the production, Simon Stone described The Bridge Theatre as “exhilarating, versatile, and incredibly intimate,” and he praised Vikander as “born to play this role,” highlighting Lincoln’s “effortless emotional access” and “vulnerability.”

The creative team includes Lizzie Clachan (set design), Mel Page (costume design), Stefan Gregory (composition and sound design), Nick Schlieper (lighting design), and Jessica Ronane CDG (casting).

Tickets for The Lady from the Sea can be purchased now at bridgetheatre.co.uk.
