Olivia Rodrigo Teams Up with Post-Punk Legend for a Duet

June 30, 20251 min read

During her headline performance at the Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid Stage, Olivia Rodrigo surprised fans by inviting post-punk icon Robert Smith of The Cure to join her for an unforgettable rendition of their classics, “Friday I’m In Love” and “Just Like Heaven.”

Smith’s appearance was a delightful surprise, and the duet quickly became one of the festival’s standout moments. Following the performance, Rodrigo expressed her excitement, saying, “He’s the coolest, nicest, most wonderful man in the world. I’m so honored to play with him.”

In his signature low-key style, Smith smiled and walked off stage after the performance. Notably, The Cure has headlined Glastonbury four times, and given Rodrigo’s age, there’s potential for her to achieve a similar record in the future.

At just 22 years old, Rodrigo made her debut at the Pyramid Stage after an impressive performance on the Other Stage three years ago. She is now the second-youngest artist to headline the festival, following Billie Eilish.

Opening her set with the energetic tracks “Obsessed” and “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl,” Rodrigo showcased her versatility with the more subdued “Vampire.” This helped to calm any doubts about her ability to take on the closing headline spot.

As The 1975 received mixed reactions for their Friday night performance and Neil Young captivated a smaller audience on Saturday, Rodrigo’s set has set a high bar, providing an extraordinary conclusion to this year’s festival at Worthy Farm.
