Ajnelli Productions is thrilled to announce the UK premiere of ‘Fly Trap,’ a solo storytelling comedy that captures the journey of self-discovery, at Camden Fringe 2025. The show will take place from July 28th to August 2nd at the Barons Court Theatre, offering a captivating mix of humor and poignant insights into the challenges of drama school and mental health. The press night is set for Monday, July 28th, at 7:30 PM.
Written and performed by Atlanta-based comedian Maria Mainelli-Ajmo, ‘Fly Trap’ reflects her experiences following a bipolar diagnosis, shedding light on the emotional toll of her time in drama school. The narrative tackles the absurdities of being a musical theatre major eager for acceptance, featuring a memorable story about licking a teenage boy’s armpit.
Mainelli-Ajmo cleverly weaves in her grandmother’s timeless advice: “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” Through her storytelling, Maria humorously reveals how this saying influenced her upbringing, ultimately leading her to embrace all the life’s messiness that shaped her character.
“‘Fly Trap’ is a piece of my heart, created for me but designed for everyone,” shares Maria Mainelli-Ajmo. “I want others to find themselves in this story and understand that it’s perfectly okay to be okay. I can’t wait to make my UK debut at Camden Fringe; it’s a true privilege to share my work internationally.”
Maria, a celebrated performer, has previously received the Helen Hayes Award for Best Ensemble Cast for her work in Blood at the Root with Theatre Alliance in Washington, D.C. ‘Fly Trap’ marks her debut solo show, having already garnered acclaim at the Atlanta Theatre, Pittsburgh Fringe, SoloCOM NYC, and Atlanta Fringe. After the Camden Fringe, she will take ‘Fly Trap’ to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the PIT NYC later this year.
The performance runs for 40 minutes and is suitable for ages 16 and up. Tickets are priced at £14, with concessions available for £10. They can be purchased at www.baronscourttheatre.com.
