Les Misérables Marks 40 Years with Special West End Cast

June 20, 20252 min read

Get ready for an unforgettable celebration as Cameron Mackintosh announces an exceptional anniversary cast for the West End production of Les Misérables. This limited engagement will run for eight weeks, from September 8 to November 1, 2025, marking the iconic musical’s 40th anniversary. The event will showcase a remarkable ensemble of talent from the musical’s rich history across West End, international performances, film adaptations, and Arena Spectaculars.

Leading the anniversary cast will be Killian Donnelly in the role of Jean Valjean, with Bradley Jaden as Javert, Katie Hall as Fantine, and Jac Yarrow as Marius. They will be joined by Shan Ako as Éponine, Jordan Shaw as Enjolras, and Beatrice Penny-Touré as Cosette. Adding to the excitement, renowned British actor Adam Gillen will make his debut at the Sondheim Theatre as Thénardier, and Australian theatre legend Marina Prior will portray Madame Thénardier. Ian McIntosh will also perform as Jean Valjean during select performances. Details for ticket sales to the special birthday performance on Wednesday, October 8, will be announced shortly.

Cameron Mackintosh shared his astonishment at the show’s enduring popularity: “It’s hard to believe that Les Misérables is already 40 years old and still thriving on Shaftesbury Avenue.” He emphasized the remarkable milestones for Les Mis, including the sold-out Arena Tour and the UK-wide amateur theatre initiative, “Let The People Sing.”

Before the anniversary cast takes the stage, a fresh company will launch the show into its fifth record-breaking decade starting July 7. This lineup will feature Ian McIntosh as Jean Valjean, Sam Oladeinde as Javert, and Katie Hall as Fantine, with most of them continuing to perform after the special anniversary season.

Les Misérables has enchanted over 130 million people around the globe, been translated into 22 languages, and received more than 180 major awards. This 40th-anniversary celebration is set to be a truly remarkable milestone for “the world’s longest-running musical.” Booking is open until March 28, 2026, with tickets starting at £25.
