Royal Ballet and Opera Expands Accessibility with Summer Program

June 16, 20252 min read

The Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) is proud to reaffirm its dedication to inclusivity by unveiling a robust lineup of accessible performances for June and July 2025. This initiative features a variety of offerings including British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted shows, captioned performances, audio-described experiences, and associated Touch Tours, all aimed at enhancing the experience for diverse audiences at its Covent Garden venue.

RBO’s mission to “provide world-class ballet and opera for everyone” extends beyond live performances to include its streaming services and the physical space itself. This summer’s accessibility program highlights two key productions: The Royal Ballet’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Royal Opera’s Il trovatore.

For Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, an audio-described performance is set for Saturday, June 14, at 7:30 PM, with a Touch Tour at 6:30 PM to enhance the experience. Additionally, captioned performances will take place on Saturday, June 28, at both 1:30 PM and 7:30 PM. This delightful ballet offers a whimsical journey through Wonderland, brimming with charming characters and captivating choreography.

Verdi’s dramatic opera, Il trovatore, will also provide enhanced accessibility options. A BSL interpreted performance is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, at 7:30 PM, followed by an audio-described show on Thursday, July 17, at 7:30 PM, complete with a Touch Tour starting at 6:30 PM. Known for its compelling storyline and memorable music, including the famous Anvil Chorus, Il trovatore serves as a fantastic introduction to opera for newcomers.

The RBO invites patrons to explore their accessibility page at www.rbo.org.uk/visit/access-at-rbo for more information about the accessibility scheme, upcoming accessible performances, and other inclusive offerings. Details about the next season’s accessible programs will be released in mid-July.
