This year’s Montreux Jazz Festival will feature a weekend-long celebration of British culture, headlined by Jarvis Cocker, Luvcat, and Horse Meat Disco. The festival returns to the picturesque shores of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, for its 59th edition, taking place from July 4 to July 19.
The festival has unveiled plans for a special weekend from July 10 to 13, showcasing the “richness and diversity of British creativity” through various activities. This partnership between London’s Southbank Centre and the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation will include music, cinema, literature, and visual art.
Jarvis Cocker is set to host a workshop titled ‘Outsider Art’ just before Pulp’s performance, while Horse Meat Disco will be spinning tracks at La Coupole on-site.
A standout event, ‘Searching for Nina Simone’s Spirit,’ will pay homage to the iconic singer, led by saxophonist Soweto Kinch and featuring musicians like Daisy George and Zoe Pascal performing her music. Andre Marmot will discuss ‘Unapologetic Expression: The Inside Story of UK Jazz,’ and there will be screenings of live performances by Massive Attack and Roni Size & Reprazent. Additionally, Benji B will conduct a workshop on the intersection of fashion and music, with journalist Tina Edwards co-hosting a discussion on queer jazz.
Mathieu Jaton, CEO of the Montreux Jazz Festival, shared his enthusiasm: “Montreux has always been a crossroads for cultures and musical expression. This British weekend captures that spirit, presenting an exciting showcase of UK creativity while enhancing our collaboration with the Southbank Centre. Our expansive free program ensures that everyone can experience the joy and discovery that define Montreux.”
Earlier in April, the first wave of artists for the festival was announced, including notable names like Neil Young, Pulp, Sam Fender, and RAYE. The opening night will also honor the late Quincy Jones, featuring a concert led by Chaka Khan and special guests.
Other artists scheduled to perform include Bloc Party, James Blake, Jorja Smith, and Santana, promising an unforgettable festival experience.
