South African pop star Tyla dropped an exciting bombshell during her debut performance at Open’er Festival 2025, stating that “new music is coming very soon.”
On July 3, Tyla electrified the main stage with a dynamic set that showcased her unique blend of amapiano, R&B, and more. Accompanied by a lively group of dancers and a band, she performed tracks from her debut album, Tyla, released in March following the huge success of her 2023 hit, “Water.”
At one point during her performance, she engaged the audience, asking, “Have you listened to my album?” before asserting that everyone “needs to catch up” on her previous work, hinting at the arrival of new material on the horizon.
This announcement follows the release of “Bliss,” Tyla’s first single in 2025 and her first solo track since her debut album. Released in May, “Bliss” marks the next chapter of her career and comes with a visually stunning music video directed by Director X. Additionally, Tyla has collaborated with K-pop sensation Lisa on the track “When I’m with You,” which features on Lisa’s debut solo album, Alter Ego.
Her self-titled album has garnered significant acclaim, yielding four singles, including “Water,” “Truth or Dare,” “Art,” and “Jump,” featuring Gunna and SkilliBeng. Many of these tracks have gone viral on social media platforms like TikTok, further solidifying her status as a rising global pop star. The album has been certified silver in the UK and gold in the US, also winning three South African Music Awards in 2024 for Best Pop Album.
In a four-star review, NME praised Tyla for its innovative fusion of pop and amapiano, stating, “It is clear we are witnessing the start of something special,” highlighting Tyla as South Africa’s brightest new talent.
Open’er Festival began on July 2, showcasing powerful performances from artists like Gracie Abrams and Massive Attack. The festival will continue until Sunday morning (July 5) and will feature headline sets from Muse and Linkin Park, along with performances from artists like Doechii and JPEGMAFIA.
In other news, Tyla is scheduled to perform at this year’s All Points East alongside Raye and Doechii, promising a night filled with anthemic pop music. Find remaining tickets for RAYE at All Points East 2025 here.
