One of Berlin’s most melancholic and yet utterly captivating locations, Spreepark, is undergoing a metamorphosis in the spring of 2026. Opening its doors on 15 March, the “Transient Landscapes” exhibition brings to light the collective output of four different artist residency groups that resided there throughout 2025. The show redefines Spreepark not merely as an abandoned amusement park, but as a living organism where nature and memory, myth and reality, decay and renewal are in constant interplay.
The exhibition unites four distinct artistic perspectives to present Spreepark’s transformation as a layered panorama. The groups Rent Collective, Disruptive Nostalgia, Memoria, and Flower Foundry have used the park as both laboratory and experiential field to explore how social, ecological, and aesthetic processes intersect. The works on display transform wild nature sprouting in the shadows of rusted Ferris wheels—and the lingering echoes of forgotten joy embedded in the spaces—from mere objects of observation into a sensory landscape that visitors can physically walk through.
The artist groups weave a vast network of spaces, sounds, and atmospheres, inviting visitors not just to witness this metamorphosis but to become part of it. Rent Collective’s sound-based installations break the park’s silence, while Disruptive Nostalgia wanders through the unsettling yet seductive labyrinths of memory. Memoria and Flower Foundry, meanwhile, give concrete form—through installations and visual narratives—to the poetic balance between nature’s botanical resilience and the slow decay of man-made structures.
This walkable landscape of transformation represents a process of “becoming” that the viewer experiences not only with their eyes but with their entire body. Running until 14 June 2026, the exhibition seals Spreepark’s transient nature while serving as a sensory manifesto showing how new visions for the future can take root.
