Underbelly has unveiled a dazzling lineup for the 7th annual Big Brain Tumour Benefit, a key highlight of its 25th Anniversary celebrations. Scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, at 7:20 PM in the esteemed McEwan Hall, this event will feature a blend of beloved and respected comedic talent, with all proceeds going towards The Brain Tumour Charity.
This year’s slate includes an outstanding array of performers. Attendees can expect to enjoy the sharp humor of Ivo Graham, the musical comedy of David O’Doherty, and the biting social insights of Emmy-nominated Michelle Wolf. Also featured is a special, one-off Fringe performance by the innovative hip-hop improv group Abandoman, along with rising star Celya AB, Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Emmanuel Sonubi, and the wonderfully unpredictable Garry Starr. Underbelly has teased that even more acts will join this already stellar lineup.
The benefit was established in 2017 by Underbelly co-founder Ed Bartlam in response to the tragic diagnosis of his son Alfie, who faced a rare form of brain cancer. Alfie passed away in 2019 at the age of seven. The annual event has raised over £700,000 thus far, with all funds going to the “Angel Child” fund at The Brain Tumour Charity, focusing on research into aggressive pediatric brain tumors.
Ed Bartlam expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating, “I’m incredibly thankful to all of the brilliant comedians and the audiences for supporting this event now in its 7th year.” He emphasized the importance of the show in generating funding while providing audiences with some of the finest comedy from the Fringe for a vital cause.
Sally King, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Brain Tumour Charity, echoed Ed’s sentiments, expressing gratitude to Underbelly for their steadfast support. She highlighted the urgent need for funding, as brain tumors remain the leading cancer killer among children and adults under 40.
