Imagine walking along Brook Street in London’s Mayfair district and stepping into the homes of two musical geniuses who shared the same walls—yet were separated by exactly 245 years. On one side, the king of Baroque music, George Frideric Handel; on the other, the man who made the electric guitar speak, Jimi Hendrix.
Today is Wednesday, 11 March 2026—which means the countdown has begun for the famous “Baroque and Roll” event taking place this weekend! Handel Hendrix House offers this special experience twice a month, transporting us both to the grandeur of 18th-century opera and to the smoky blues world of the 1960s.
A Baroque Feast in Handel’s Dining Room (13:00 – 15:00)
The journey begins in the dining room of Handel’s home at 25 Brook Street. This was never just a place to eat—it was the very centre where Handel rehearsed his most famous operas and where the most talented musicians of the era worked tirelessly.
What to expect? The distinctive sound of the harpsichord echoing through the room, historical instruments, and artists performing Baroque arias.
Vibe: Intimate and elegant. Hearing the music of Handel and his contemporaries in the very narrow yet high-ceilinged rooms where these compositions were first heard truly makes you feel like a time traveller.
Blues and Jamming in Hendrix’s Bedroom (14:00 – 16:00)
After the Baroque tones, you take just a few steps (and a few centuries) and find yourself at 23 Brook Street, in Jimi Hendrix’s legendary bedroom. The spirit of the 1960s is still vividly alive here.
What to expect? Guitarists filling the room with blues melodies while you feel the energy of the period Jimi spent here with his partner Kathy.
George Harrison detail: Jimi’s home wasn’t merely a residence—it was a creative hub. This room, where he stayed up late with friends like George Harrison and played his record collection at full volume, now comes back to life with live guitar performances.
Why You Shouldn’t Miss It
The best part of “Baroque and Roll” days is that these live music performances are included in the general admission ticket. That means you can enjoy these professional recitals at no extra cost while touring the museum.
