A silent dialogue across generations
Brieflyart, Gümüşsuyu
On view through November 16, 2025
Rainer Maria Rilke once wrote, “Among trees, one does not feel alone; they stand together.” The Talking Like Trees exhibition at Brieflyart unfolds within this sentiment—a space of togetherness, silent solidarity, and intergenerational memory. Bringing together works by Neş’e Erdok, Hüsnü Koldaş, Kemal İskender, Nedret Sekban, Resul Aytemür, and Ahmet Umur Deniz, the exhibition revives the enduring legacy of the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and the shared memory of Neşet Günal’s studio in contemporary art. Curated by Aslı Bora, the show makes visible the silent dialogues between different generations emerging from the same studio. Each artist contributes their unique aesthetic language to these conversations, like trees with roots in the same soil but branches reaching toward different skies.

Neş’e Erdok’s figures, reflecting the fragility of the human soul with raw honesty, carry the exhibition’s emotional weight. Hüsnü Koldaş balances this intensity with a disciplined yet experimental approach. Kemal İskender provides the intellectual backbone, while Nedret Sekban’s dramatic figures add visual depth to the narrative. Resul Aytemür brings Beyoğlu’s street memory to life through color, and Ahmet Umur Deniz blends collective memory with personal experiences, offering a perspective that reaches toward the future.
The exhibition welcomes viewers like stepping into a forest. Light, sound, and color shift. The works make space for one another, creating a rhythm between silence and intensity. As visitors walk through this rhythm, they unknowingly become part of the dialogue.
Talking Like Trees feels like a silent legacy passed from one generation to the next. It reminds us, through art, of both the weight and the lightness of togetherness.
The exhibition is on view at Brieflyart, Gümüşsuyu, through November 16, 2025.
Visiting hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 11:00 AM–7:00 PM; Sunday, 1:00 PM–7:00 PM.
