“Sil Baştan” Hits the Stage: Laughter, Applause, and a Mirror to Ourselves

October 22, 20252 min read

The play Sil Baştan, bringing together Aslı Bekiroğlu and Tolga Güleç on stage, premiered on Wednesday, October 15, at Caddebostan Culture Center (CKM) to a packed house and resounding applause. Bekiroğlu’s theatrical debut was highly anticipated, and her performance was met with enthusiastic cheers.

Written by Simay Antep and directed by Vahap Şen, the play, produced by Fatih Küçük under İstanbul Sanat Ofisi, weaves a vibrant story blending humor, emotional conflicts, and modern relationships. Sil Baştan questions the struggle to change others in a world where changing oneself is already a challenge, exploring themes of love, ego, acceptance, and transformation with a witty and thought-provoking tone.

In the story, Su discovers a miraculous way to get her boyfriend Ateş to do whatever she wants. Though she resists using this power, her close friend Aziz nudges her into the experiment. What starts as a playful game soon spirals into a conflict where the balance of their relationship unravels, and roles dramatically reverse.

With its dynamic direction, surprise-filled stage design, and fast-paced dialogue, Sil Baştan shines. Alongside Bekiroğlu and Güleç, the cast includes Yusuf Burak Kurtoğlu, Metin Kurt, and Hüseyin Yıldırım.

This single-act play flows seamlessly for modern audiences and, following its premiere, embarks on a Turkey tour:

  • October 20 – Samsun Atakum Art Center
  • October 21 – Giresun Culture and Fair Center
  • October 25 – Hilltown Seyirlik Stage
  • October 26 – Torium Stage

Bringing the absurdity of modern relationships, the desire for change, and the humorous contradictions of human nature to the stage, Sil Baştan is poised to be one of this season’s most energetic romantic comedies.
