Ruprecht von Kaufmann’s “HERBST” Exhibition in Berlin: A Turning Point for Society

September 1, 20251 min read

Haus am Lützowplatz (HaL) in Berlin hosts the solo exhibition HERBST (Autumn) by contemporary artist Ruprecht von Kaufmann. Specifically designed for the art association’s spaces, the exhibition primarily features works created by the artist from late 2024 onward.

The exhibition draws striking parallels between the present day and the political and social phenomena of the Weimar Republic a century ago. Kaufmann strengthens these connections with references to Otto Dix’s works. Highlighting unsettling similarities such as economic and political crises, the resurgence of right-wing populism, and the growing threat of war in Europe, the artist portrays society on the brink of a new era.

Born in Munich in 1974, Ruprecht von Kaufmann has lived in Berlin since 2003. HERBST marks his largest institutional solo project in Berlin.
