Record-Breaking ‘Louvre Couture’ Exhibition Becomes Second Most Visited Showcase at the Louvre

August 26, 20251 min read

More than a million people flocked to the Louvre’s inaugural fashion exhibition, ‘Louvre Couture,’ which concluded on Sunday.

This exceptional exhibition showcased masterpieces from the Louvre’s decorative arts collection alongside significant contemporary fashion pieces dating from the 1960s to 2025.

Spanning nearly 9,000 square meters, it displayed around 100 fashion items and accessories lent by 45 renowned fashion houses and designers, including Hubert de Givenchy, Thom Browne, Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld, and John Galliano. This initiative aimed to diversify the Louvre’s audience.

The iconic museum reported that ‘Louvre Couture’ attracted 1.059 million visitors, making it the second most popular exhibition in its history—only slightly behind the 1.072 million visitors who attended the 2019/2020 Leonardo da Vinci exhibition.

“We’re witnessing a true resurgence of fashion in museums,” noted Camille de Foresta, auctioneer and vice-president of Christie’s France. Louvre president and director Laurence Des Cars echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the museum’s goal to draw in “new generations of visitors with varied cultural backgrounds.”

‘Louvre Couture’ ran from January 24 to August 24, 2025.
