Plásmata 3: Athens’ Enchanting Open-Air Biennale Blurs Reality and Illusion

May 30, 20252 min read

From May 27 to June 15, 2025, Athens’ Pedion Areos Park transforms into a mesmerizing open-air gallery for Plásmata 3: We’ve Met Before, Haven’t We?, presented by Onassis Stegi. This biennale invites visitors into a world where the boundaries between reality and illusion dissolve, turning the everyday into something magical. Featuring 25 works by Greek and international artists, the exhibition blends visual art, music, performance, cinema, and more, creating an immersive experience that captivates and challenges perceptions.

The third edition of Plásmata explores the interplay of the organic and digital, weaving land art with cutting-edge technology. Highlights include Yoann Bourgeois Art Company’s performances, staged on May 27–28 and June 6–8, 13–15, which fuse movement and emotion in the park’s open spaces. Pierre-Christophe Gam’s The Sanctuary of Dreams offers a surreal installation, while other works subtly integrate into the park’s landscape, inviting visitors to wander and discover. From glowing nighttime installations to thought-provoking encounters with local communities, the biennale reimagines public space as a canvas for creativity.

Curated with a focus on accessibility, Plásmata 3 is free to the public, encouraging diverse audiences to engage with art that questions reality and celebrates the unexpected. The exhibition’s title, We’ve Met Before, Haven’t We?, evokes a sense of déjà vu, prompting reflection on memory, familiarity, and the fluidity of experience. Whether through a haunting soundscape or a striking sculpture, each piece transforms the park into a dreamlike realm.

Mark your calendars for this 20-day celebration of art and innovation in Athens. Plásmata 3 promises an unforgettable journey where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
