Peep Show Stars Reunite for New Sketch Show, Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping

Channel 4 has unveiled a sneak peek of David Mitchell and Robert Webb’s upcoming sketch show, Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping.

Set to premiere in September, this six-part series marks the duo’s first collaboration on screen since the 2017 sitcom Back and comes 12 years after the conclusion of Peep Show.

Produced by That Mitchell & Webb Company in partnership with Big Talk Studios (known for Friday Night Dinner), the show is directed by longtime collaborator Gareth Edwards. This will be their biggest return to sketch comedy since That Mitchell & Webb Look wrapped up over a decade ago.

Joining Mitchell and Webb are emerging talents Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts, Taskmaster), Lara Ricote (Live at the Apollo), Stevie Martin (Starstruck), and Krystal Evans (Scot Squad), along with a diverse mix of experienced and up-and-coming writers.

In the teaser clip, Mitchell hilariously navigates the trials of airport security, eliciting mixed reactions from fans regarding the humor.

While many viewers expressed excitement for the show, some voiced concerns, hoping that it wouldn’t represent the peak of the series.

When the news of the show broke, Mitchell and Webb shared their thoughts on the current state of sketch comedy, stating, “When Channel 4 asked us to create a new sketch show, we were surprised, confused, and, of course, available. It’s a challenging time for the industry, and our hope is that reviving such a delicate genre of comedy will be a bold move in commissioning.”

They humorously added, “We’re confident that unlike Roger Moore teetering on the edge of a cliff in For Your Eyes Only, we’re not here to push British TV comedy over the brink.”

Additionally, last October it was announced that Back would be adapted for American television.
