Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic lead singer of Black Sabbath and a monumental figure in rock history, has died at the age of 76. His family released a heartfelt statement on Tuesday, July 22, revealing that he passed away “surrounded by love.”
This tragic news comes just a few weeks after Black Sabbath’s monumental ‘Back To The Beginning’ farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham, where Osbourne performed a stirring four-song set. During the show, he expressed his gratitude to the audience, stating, “Your support has allowed us to live an amazing life—thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
The concert marked the first time since 2005 that Osbourne shared the stage with his bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. Although Osbourne had not performed a full show since 2018, due to various health issues—including multiple surgeries and a battle with Parkinson’s disease—he approached the final concert with determination. Earlier this year, he conveyed optimism in an interview with The Guardian, saying, “I’ll be there, and I’ll do the best I can. All I can do is show up,” hinting at the possibility that he might need to sit down during the performance.
Rumors even circulated about an elaborate stage setup, suggesting he might perform from a “throne that flies over the stadium.”
