New Details on the Third Novel in Stephen King’s “The Talisman” Series, 24 Years in the Making

July 8, 20252 min read

Horror and fantasy literature maestro Stephen King has shared thrilling new details about the third novel in the “Talisman” universe, co-created with Peter Straub, sparking excitement among fans. In posts on his personal Threads account, King announced that the third novel is nearly complete. This news, coming 24 years after the release of the second book, Black House, has generated significant buzz.

Jack Sawyer’s New Adventure and Peter Straub’s Legacy

The series’ protagonist, Jack Sawyer, will continue his adventures in this new book, set in a different phase of his life. In the first novel, The Talisman (1984), Jack was 12 years old, while in Black House (2001), he was 42. Now, readers will see Jack at 57, indicating the story will focus on his middle-aged years. The Talisman followed a young boy’s journey across parallel worlds to save his mother, while Black House centered on a detective investigating mysterious child murders in the same universe.

Stephen King revealed that before his passing in 2022, his late friend and co-author Peter Straub sent him a lengthy letter proposing they write the third book, which provided an inspiring idea. King noted that this new novel is based on Straub’s concepts, and, as with the previous two books, Peter Straub will receive co-author credit. This decision underscores the importance of honoring Straub’s legacy.

Connections to Middle-earth and the Dark Tower Universe

Another intriguing detail King shared is that the new novel will take readers back to “Middle-earth.” Previously, on his X account (formerly Twitter), King teased, “I’m back in Middle-earth…,” hinting that this book will strengthen ties to his iconic Dark Tower series. Black House already featured direct references to characters and locations from the Dark Tower universe, and this novel is expected to deepen those connections.

While the novel’s title and exact release date remain unconfirmed, fans of The Talisman series and Stephen King’s broader readership are eagerly anticipating Jack Sawyer’s next adventure.
