Gagosian will present Bones, a new exhibition of works by Maurizio Cattelan, opening April 8, 2025, at the gallery’s Davies Street location. The exhibition features striking pieces such as gold-plated panels, a Carrara marble boulder, and a sculpture of a skeleton playing a guitar. Through these works, Cattelan explores the relationship between creation and destruction, addressing themes of violence and transformation with each mark and opening. The sculptures also reflect a dialogue between opposing forces—home and wilderness, power and resistance—inviting viewers to engage with the tensions embedded in the materials and forms.
Works such as Notre Dame (2025) and Deaf (2025) blend mythological and contemporary themes, offering layered interpretations. The exhibition provides a powerful commentary on materiality, the symbolic potency of gold, and societal issues linked to weaponry and control. Simultaneously, Gagosian’s Burlington Arcade location will host another exhibition featuring Cattelan’s watercolors, editions, and drawings. These works offer a different yet equally compelling perspective into the artist’s radical visual language and symbolic depth.
