London is gearing up to host a centuries-old tradition once again. This year, the Lord Mayor’s Show will, for the first time, be officially named the Lady Mayor’s Show. Taking place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the event carries both historical and symbolic significance, as it marks the first time in over 800 years that a “Lady Mayor of London” will be formally celebrated.
A Modern Reflection of an 800-Year Tradition
The roots of this grand ceremony trace back to 1215, when King John granted Londoners the right to elect their own mayor. There was one condition: each new mayor (Lord or, this year, Lady Mayor) had to swear loyalty to the crown in Westminster. This journey forms the foundation of the Lord Mayor’s Show, the world’s oldest and longest-running civic procession.
Over 800 years, neither wars, plagues, nor fires have stopped this tradition. Today, it continues to come alive with gilded carriages, mounted troops, marching bands, and vibrant floats in the heart of the city.

2025’s First Lady Mayor: Dame Susan Langley
This year’s centerpiece is Dame Susan Langley DBE, the 697th Mayor of London. Only the third woman to hold this title in 800 years, Langley is also the first to officially bear the “Lady Mayor of London” title. Hailing from the East End, she is renowned for her work in social equality, sustainability, and city culture.

Procession Route and Schedule
The ceremony begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 8, from the Lady Mayor’s official residence, Mansion House. The roughly three-mile procession travels through Cheapside and St Paul’s Cathedral to the Royal Courts of Justice.
After pledging loyalty to the crown, the Lady Mayor rejoins the parade at Temple Place, returning to Mansion House via the Embankment between 1:15 PM and 2:30 PM. This return route offers a quieter viewing experience for those seeking a calmer atmosphere.
Later in the day, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, City of London guides will offer free city walks. Additionally, the ground floor of St Paul’s Cathedral will be open for free visits until 3:30 PM.

7,000 Participants, 250 Horses, Over 50 Floats
This year’s Lady Mayor’s Parade promises a spectacular display. Approximately 7,000 participants, 250 horses, and over 50 decorated floats will take part. Military bands, Taiko drummers, Livery Companies, schools, charities, musicians, and artists will join the procession.
A highlight is the guest appearance of Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson. In a nod to the Lady Mayor’s roots, the Pearly Kings and Queens will also feature in the parade.
The most iconic moment remains the passage of the gold-gilded State Coach, used in every Lord Mayor’s Show since 1757—the oldest ceremonial vehicle still in active use worldwide.

Where to Watch
The event is completely free, with around 350,000 spectators expected to line London’s streets, as they do every year.
- Popular Viewing Spots: Between Bank and St Paul’s (11:00 AM–12:00 PM)
- Quieter Route: Temple to Blackfriars (1:15 PM–2:30 PM)
Bring comfortable shoes, water, and a raincoat—it’s London, after all!
The Legendary “Ghost Parade”
A few days before the main event, around 3:30 AM, a secretive rehearsal known as the “Ghost Parade” takes place in the City of London’s streets. Featuring only horses, carriages, and a few staff, this nocturnal procession ensures the main event runs flawlessly.
Travel Information
Many central London roads will be closed to traffic on the day, so driving is not recommended. Bank or St Paul’s Tube stations offer easy walking access to the procession route.
Live Broadcast: As always, the event will be aired live on BBC One and online platforms.
