What if grief took the form of talking sculptures and ghostly encounters?
“Lost Watches” is a captivating and surreal new play featuring Jason Isaacs (known for his roles in “The White Lotus” and “Harry Potter”). The script comes from rising playwright Lorenzo Allchurch (“Bollocks”) and is directed by acclaimed filmmaker and theatre director Alex Helfrecht (“The White King,” “A Winter’s Journey”).
This darkly comedic exploration delves into memory, mental health, and the grieving process. The production will take place in Park Theatre’s intimate Park90 venue from July 30 to August 23.
After the death of his mother and the absence of his father, young Allen finds himself overwhelmed with a house he can’t afford and emotional trauma that feels insurmountable. Just as his family home is about to be repossessed, he experiences a series of unexpected visits that propel him into a journey of self-discovery.
During a hallucinatory weekend, Allen encounters apparitions and engages in conversations with the sculpted head of beat writer William Burroughs as he grapples with the emotional fallout of his repressed past.
“Lost Watches” is a genre-defying psychological absurdist drama that combines rich language, sharp humor, and poignant emotion. It poses profound questions such as:
- Can the departed aid our healing, or do they simply linger in our memories?
- What happens when we can no longer tell reality from imagination?
- And how can we release – people, places, pain – before it consumes us?
This is a tale of haunting memories and fractured identities, articulated with surreal comedy and deep emotional resonance. “Lost Watches” is a ghost story for anyone who has ever felt trapped in time.
