A fresh trailer for Eminem’s upcoming documentary has just been released, giving fans a glimpse of the rapper interacting with his real-life ‘Stans.’ Check it out below.
The project was announced back in February, revealing that the iconic artist would co-produce a documentary titled Stans, focusing on some of his most dedicated followers. The title pays homage to the term he popularized in his 2000 hit song of the same name, featuring Dido, where he explores the unsettling perspective of an obsessed fan who believes they share a personal connection with him.
The new trailer, set to premiere in select theaters for a limited time starting August 7, kicks off with the official definition of “Stan” — a term added to the Oxford English Dictionary and Merriam-Webster in 2019, describing “an overzealous or obsessive fan, especially of a particular celebrity.”
The footage showcases Eminem’s journey over the years, performing to huge crowds, while fans ask him questions such as, “Why did you write the song ‘Stan’?”, “Is ‘Stan’ based on a real person?”, and “Why do you share so much of your life in your music?” Unlike the intensity of the character from the song, the fans’ queries seem more lighthearted, touching on themes like fame and family, including questions about his daughter Hailie.
In a reflective moment towards the end of the trailer, Eminem looks directly into the camera and asks, “What’s your first question?”
According to a synopsis shared by Rolling Stone, the documentary delves deeper than just fandom; it examines the intricate relationship between Eminem, one of the world’s most private artists, and his massive public persona. By incorporating stylized reenactments, rare archival clips, intimate interviews, and an exclusive chat with Eminem, the film promises an authentic and revealing exploration of his career and the passionate fanbase that has evolved alongside him.
Stans will be screened exclusively at AMC Theatres from August 7 to 10, with a global release through Trafalgar Releasing. The film will also feature an original soundtrack with previously unreleased material.
Having premiered at SXSW London last month, those involved were fans who responded to a survey distributed by Eminem’s team last year.
In other news, Eminem is currently pursuing legal action against Meta for the alleged unauthorized use of his music, claiming damages that could exceed $1 million.
