A teaser trailer featuring Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, and Daniel Brühl has been unveiled, offering a first glimpse into Ron Howard’s latest thriller, Eden.
Renowned for films like Apollo 13 and The Da Vinci Code, Howard delivers a gripping contemporary narrative centered on a group of individuals journeying to the Galapagos Islands—the same famed location where Charles Darwin formulated his groundbreaking theory of evolution.
The trailer kicks off with the chilling line, “You are the very definition of survival of the fittest.” Sweeney’s family shares their motivation to abandon their previous lives for a new beginning, inspired by a visionary doctor leading their isolated group. Yet, Armas’ character ominously warns, “By this time next year, one of us will be gone.”
Sweeney’s character quickly senses the underlying tensions, telling her partner, “They are trying their best to ruin us,” while assuring, “They won’t, because we are family.” Gunfire and disturbing outbursts of violence punctuate the brief trailer.
It’s soon clear that the group’s greatest threat stems not from a hostile environment or societal collapse, but rather from one another. The ominous, cloudy atmosphere of the island heightens the power struggles brewing within the group.
Parts of the film were shot in Queensland, Australia, showcasing dense jungle landscapes that complement the survival thriller’s remote setting. Additional filming took place in the Galapagos Islands themselves.
The screenplay, penned by Noah Pink (Tetris), is based on a story he co-developed with Howard. Eden is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September, after which it was acquired by Vertical.
Mark your calendars: Eden is scheduled for release on August 22, 2025.
