Chappell Roan Shares Update on Her Second Album: “It Doesn’t Exist Yet, It Could Take Five Years”

August 5, 20252 min read

Chappell Roan has openly stated that her second album “doesn’t exist yet” and might not be completed for at least another five years. The pop sensation, known for her impactful debut album The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, shared her thoughts during a recent interview with Vogue, where she talked about her vision for new music.

“I haven’t started working on my second project,” Roan explained. “There’s no album and no collection of songs prepared.” Reflecting on the writing process, she noted, “The first album took me five years, and I expect the next one will take just as long. I’m not the kind of writer who can churn songs out quickly.”

Roan also mentioned that she doesn’t feel inspired when she forces herself to create, dismissing comments from fans who might question her absence in the studio. “Even if I spent every hour of the day in the studio, it wouldn’t guarantee a quicker release,” she emphasized.

With her debut LP, Roan captured audiences with singles like “Pink Pony Club” and “HOT TO GO!”, ultimately earning her first UK Number One album nearly a year after its debut. In 2024, she followed up with chart-topping hits such as “Good Luck, Babe!” and her “full ass country song” titled “The Giver.” Most recently, she released the eagerly awaited single “The Subway.”

In her Vogue interview, Roan also revealed her decision to step back from social media during her songwriting process. “Social media really affects my creativity,” she confessed, stating that she only uses Instagram briefly before deleting the app. “The album creation is a personal journey, and I want to keep it private.”

Despite her growing fame, including receiving multiple Grammy nominations for her debut and hit singles, Roan acknowledged her distance from her second album. In March, she mentioned being “so beyond far away from” its release timeline.
