Brendan Gleeson Stars in All-Star Cast for Conor McPherson’s ‘The Weir’

June 24, 20252 min read

A highly anticipated new production of Conor McPherson’s acclaimed play, The Weir, has revealed its full cast, led by the award-winning Brendan Gleeson, who will be making his West End debut as Jack. This important revival will be directed by McPherson himself for the very first time and is produced by Kate Horton Productions and Landmark Productions.

The Weir is set to premiere at the Harold Pinter Theatre in the West End from September 12 to December 6, 2025, with a press night on Friday, September 19. Before heading to London, the production will be showcased at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre from August 8 to September 6.

Joining Gleeson, known for his performances in The Banshees of Inisherin and Paddington 2, is a talented ensemble cast: Owen McDonnell (Bad Sisters, Killing Eve) as Brendan, Seán McGinley (That They May Face the Rising Sun) as Jim, Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, Wolf Hall) as Valerie, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Dancing at Lughnasa, Say Nothing) as Finbar.

Set on a stormy night in a secluded Irish pub, The Weir explores the intertwining tales of four local men disrupted by the arrival of Valerie. As they share gripping and unsettling stories to impress her, Valerie eventually reveals her own deeply personal narrative, leaving everyone profoundly affected. The play is celebrated for its poignant exploration of human connection, the enduring power of hope, and the impact of storytelling.

Conor McPherson shared his enthusiasm, stating, “I couldn’t be happier to be working with this brilliant cast. Revisiting The Weir alongside these particularly accomplished artists feels like a unique privilege.” The creative team includes Rae Smith (set and costume design), Mark Henderson (lighting design), and Kevin Gleeson (sound design).

Tickets for the West End run are now available at theweirplay.com, with 10,000 seats priced at £30 or less, including 3,000 specifically reserved for those under 30 and blue light workers.
