“Binding References”: A Festival Exploring the Framework of Art and Narrative

The festival “Binding References – on (RE) FRAMING Narratives,” bringing together artists from Germany and Istanbul, takes place at Barın Han from May 29 to June 5. Curated by Mary Fischer, the festival offers a rich program featuring paintings, drawings, installations, sound projects, artist books, concerts, readings, and performances.

Drawing inspiration from Barın Han’s history, the festival’s conceptual framework centers on the idea of “framing.” In an era where physical boundaries are constantly questioned in the digital world, books and artworks transform into interactive spaces where audiences can share their stories. Bringing together artists from Germany and the fellows of Istanbul’s ATELIER GALATA residency program, the festival celebrates books and art spaces as intimate realms of personal and collective memory.
